Mendeley

Guide to using Mendeley reference management and social citation sharing software

Adding references from another reference management package

Mendeley Reference Manager allows you to import files saved from EndNote, Zotero or BibTeX.

  • First, use the export option in the other reference management package to extract the references in either BibTex, EndNote XML or RIS format
  • In Mendeley Reference Manager, click on the +Add new button, select Import Library and then the appropriate file type.
  • Browse to where you have saved the downloaded file, and click on Open.

Example - importing an EndNote library or group:

  • In EndNote Desktop, select either All references or a group set of references
  • Click on File and Export as an XML (.xml) file to your computer
  • Open Mendeley Reference Manager, and click on +Add new, then, Import library, and select EndNote XML
  • Browse to the previously downloaded file on your computer, and click on Open.
