Library essentials for students and staff 2020-21

Accessing UCL library study spaces

A limited number of libraries are currently open as well as additional study space at 1-19 Torrington Place, Bidborough House and Ramsay Hall (New York Block). Please check individual Opening Hours for more information.

The number of available study spaces has been reduced from normal capacity to allow for social distancing, and an online booking system for seats is now available. You can book two time slots per day, up to 3 days in advance. Dedicated spaces are available for postgraduate use.

We are currently unable to make provision for group study in the libraries.

You must follow UCL guidelines to keep our community safe.

Facilities available in our libraries

  • Self-service laptop loans are available in many of the libraries. We quarantine laptops for 72 hours after their return.
  • Student computers are available in most of the libraries.
  • Printing and copying facilities are available in the libraries.
  • The availability of other facilities, such as lockers and refreshment points, will vary from library to library.

Check our Libraries and Study Spaces webpage for current information.

Using other libraries

All UCL students may study at and borrow books from Senate House Library, close to the main Bloomsbury campus. You can register for e-resource access without visiting the library in person. Please check their website for information on their current service status which may change at short notice.

Other libraries in the London area also welcome UCL members. Check our list of Other libraries available for UCL students and staff, for more information. Please note that access restrictions are likely to apply at these institutions and you should always check the institution’s website before you set off.
