Library essentials for students and staff 2020-21

Accessing UCL library study spaces

Study space will be available in UCL’s libraries. Please check the opening hours for the library before visiting.

The number of available study spaces will be reduced from normal capacity, to allow for social distancing, and an online booking system for seats in the libraries will be available. Dedicated spaces are available for postgraduate use.

We are currently unable to make provision for group study in the libraries.

Because of Test and Trace, you may be required to provide personal details before entering some of the libraries.

You must follow UCL guidelines to keep our community safe.

Facilities available in our libraries

  • Self-service laptop loans are available in many of the libraries. We quarantine laptops for 72 hours, which will restrict the number available for loan at any time.
  • Student computers are available in most of the libraries.
  • Printing and copying facilities are available in the libraries.
  • The availability of other facilities, such as lockers and refreshment points, will vary from library to library.

Check our UCL Libraries webpage for current information on individual libraries.

Using other libraries

All UCL students may study at and borrow books from Senate House Library, close to the main Bloomsbury campus. Please check their website for information on their current service status which may change at short notice.

Other libraries in the London area also welcome UCL members. Check our list of Other libraries available for UCL students and staff, for more information. Please note that access restrictions are likely to apply at these institutions and you should always check the institution’s website before you set off.
