Classical Archaeology

Books at the IOA Library

Material on the subject of classical archaeology has the prefix YATES in honour of James Yates, an antiquarian and collector whose will provided for the founding of the present collection, and is located in the UCL Institute of Archaeology Library.

Its strengths include a large number of excavation reports from the main Greek and Roman sites (e.g. Delphi, Samos, Delos, Olympia and Pompeii) and many important series such as: Corpus vasorum antiquorum (CVA) and Lexicon iconographicum mythologiae classicae.

A guide to the Garside classification scheme is available.

Larger volumes, described as Quartos or Qtos, are shelved separately in the area to the left of the Library as you enter opposite the Issue Desk. Outsize volumes (Folios) are shelved flat at the rear of the stacks along with a number of the larger atlases.
