To locate material not held by UCL you can use the Library Hub Discover site, an online catalogue with records of the holdings the top research libraries in the country.

A number of academic and research libraries are within walking distance of the Main UCL campus:

• Senate House Library has strong collections in languages, the arts and social and historical sciences. Any registered member of UCL can join the library and borrow from there. You can pre-register online.
• The British Library has strong languages collections: Dutch, Romance and German languages. UCL staff and students can apply directly for reference access.
• University of London libraries in the Bloomsbury area include those belonging to:
  • The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
  • School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
  • London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
  • Birkbeck (multi-disciplinary).
  • Institute of Commonwealth Studies.

Most University of London libraries will allow students to have reference access on production of a valid UCL identity card. Each institution has its own policies, however, so it is best to check the library's access regulations online before making a visit.

• The Wellcome Library has collections relating to the history of medicine. Membership of the Wellcome Library provides reference access to its collections and is free of charge.
