EBSCOhost databases

Guide to using EBSCOhost databases (new interface launched August 2025)

Exporting search results

From the search results list, select one or more items and icons will appear above the list so that you can download results, share results, and copy or export citations.

Menu highlighting three icons: download, share, and cite.

  • Download: Save a list of selected results to your device in one of the following formats: PDF, MSWORD, CSV, BIBTEX, MARC21, XML.
  • Share: Send a list of selected results to Google Drive or OneDrive, or select the Email tab to send results to one or more email addresses.
  • Cite: You have two citation options:
    • Copy citation:
      • Select a citation style from the drop-down menu.
      • Select Copy all to clipboard.
      • Paste the citations wherever you need them, for example into a PowerPoint slide.
    • Export citation:
      • Export a file of citations for import into reference management software, or similar.
      • Options include Export in RIS format (e.g. for EndNote, Zotero, Mendeley, etc.) or Export to EndNote Web.

You can also download results, or export citations, from the following areas of My dashboard:

  • Projects (you need to create or sign in to a MyEBSCO account to access Projects);
  • Saved (from the Records tab); or
  • Recent activity (from the Viewed Records tab).

Note: ESBCOhost automatically removes duplicate results when you search more than one database at a time, or when you export results to a RIS file. As a result, you may see fewer total results if you cross-search databases than if you search the same databases individually. You may also notice that the number of results exported in a RIS file is lower than the total number originally retrieved.

Exporting large numbers of results

If you would like to export more than 50 records at once:

  • Sign into your personal MyEBSCO accountScreenshot of the arrow that can be used to display a drop down menu and select the bottom option, Export results up to 25,000.
  • Select one or more items from the search results list and icons will appear above the list.
  • Select the small down arrow to the left of the icons to view the selection menu.
  • Choose the option Export results (Up to 25,000)
  • Enter your e-mail address and (optionally) the e-mail addresses of anyone else you would like to share the results with.
  • Select the export format. Options are: CSV, XML, MARC21, BIBTEX, or RIS.
  • Select the Send button.

EBSCO will then e-mail you a link to download an export file. The link will be available for download for 7 days.

You can use the Export results (Up to 25,000) option twenty times within a 24 hour period.
