You can temporarily save results to the Clipboard for the duration of your search session. They will automatically disappear after 8 hours of inactivity. You do not need to create or login to a My NCBI account to use the Clipboard.
Save results to the Clipboard by simply ticking the boxes of records you would like to add, and selecting Send to, and then Clipboard. You can access the Clipboard using a link underneath the simple search box.
Warning: Clipboard results will be lost if you clear the cookies in your Internet browser, as well as after 8 hours of activity.
To save records into permanent collections you will need to set up and login to a My NCBI account.
Tick the boxes of records you would like to add, and select Send to, and then Collections. You can then choose to create a new collection, or add results to an existing collection (if one exists).
Although collections are permanently saved in your account, please note that NCBI accounts are deleted after 2 years of inactivity.
Setting up an NCBI account will allow you to save your results in collections, save search strategies and set up alerts. It also allows you to take advantage of other features such as personal bibliographies.
You can set up an account using a 'partner organization' username and password, for example your UCL user ID and password or a Google account. Your NCBI account can be linked to multiple 'partner organizations' allowing different sign in options to the same account. You can link your account to your UCL login by choosing more login options and searching for 'UCL'.
Tip: If you create an NCBI account using a UCL login then we would advise adding an additional 'partner organization' as a login option, e.g. Google, Microsoft etc, so that you can retain access to your NCBI account in the event that you leave UCL
For more information see NCBI help: Signing in to My NCBI.
Clipboard results are automatically added to the Advanced Search Builder history as search number #0. You can incorporate them into searches in both Advanced and simple searches.
For example, to limit your Clipboard results to just those written in the English Language you can search for #0 in the PubMed simple search box and then apply the English Language filter. This will not alter your Clipboard contents.
NCBI stands for National Center for Biotechnology Information, a division of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
PubMed is just one of many databases and sources hosted by NCBI.
