Best practice guidance: library skills videos

A guide to creating library skills videos

Microsoft Stream

The easiest way to add automated captions to a video is by uploading it to Microsoft Stream.

The accuracy of the automated captions will vary and will almost certainly require editing. You will need to allow two to three times the length of the video to edit your captions. Captions which have errors or have not been checked are not compliant with accessibility regulations.

Captions can be edited in Microsoft Stream or in UCL MediaCentral, once you have uploaded your video.

Editing captions in UCL MediaCentral

Once you have uploaded a video and captions file to UCL MediaCentral, you can edit the captions file to make it accurate.

  • Log in to UCL MediaCentral.
  • Click on the My Account icon in the top right and select My content.
  • Click on the Edit icon on the far right for the video you wish to edit.
  • Click on the Assoc Files tab and then on the Edit captions icon, a pencil icon next to the red delete icon.
  • Click on play. The current caption is displayed in the Edit caption box below the video preview, with adjacent captions displayed in to the right.
  • Click in the Edit caption box to edit the caption. When you have made your edit, click on Continue.
  • When you have finished editing, click on Finished.
