Best practice guidance: library skills videos

To add the UCL LIbrary Skills opener and closer to an existing Camtasia project:

• Open your existing project and ensure you have enough space at the start of the video to insert the opener. The opener should be 2-3 seconds long and needs to overlap with the start of your video so that there is a smooth transition. To move the content of your existing project, select all by pressing Ctrl + A and then click and drag the content.
• Open the 'Library Skills Branding Template 2020' project in Camtasia.
• Select and copy the following elements from the template. You can hold down the Ctrl key to select multiple objects: Transitions, turquoise rectangles at either end of an object, do not need to be selected separately.
  • One set of opening slide options from Tracks 2 and 3. There is a choice of one of 4 colours.. If you wish to insert a local library or NHS logo that has a white background to the image, you may want to select the white background slide.
  • If you wish to include text indicating the authorship, select the text in track 4, which can be edited.
  • The black closer from Track 2.
  • If your video will have different titled sections, select the simple rectangle of appropriate colour and accompanying text box from tracks 2 and 3. You can subsequently copy this to include it multiple times in your video.
• Once all relevant elements are selected, open your open your Camtasia project and paste the elements from the template into your project. Ideally your existing project should occupy track 1, and the template elements occupy tracks 2 and 3 (and 4 if you have extra branding). You should see that the individual elements have been copied to your media bin.
• Edit the text on the title slide and section title slides as required.

Please note, the opener and closer have sliding transitions, which are indicated by turquoise rectangles. This means that the content of your video after the opener needs to overlap with the opener in track 2, at the point where the transition begins, and similarly it should overlap with the closer until the end of the transition.
