Library Skills@UCL for NHS

A guide to information literacy and library skills for NHS staff from Trusts supported by UCL Library Services, to inform clinical practice, study and research.

NHS Knowledge & Library Hub: associated tools

The NHS Knowledge and Library Hub is a search tool to connect NHS staff to knowledge and evidence resources in one place It includes online journals, e-books and databases, clinical decision support resources including NICE Guidelines and BMJ Best Practice, and one-click links to full-text.

Searching NHS Knowledge & Library Hub

The Hub is useful whether you are just trying to find a specific journal article or e-book, or if you want to search across resources. You can find journal articles, e-books, clinical decision support tools and clinical guidelines all in one place.

To see all the resources available to your Trust, log in using your OpenAthens credentials, where it says: 'Welcome, Guest', in the yellow bar at the top. You can still search the Hub without logging in, although access to resources will be restricted.

To access the Hub please choose your Trust from the list below:

Please note, the video uses University College London Hospitals Foundation Trust as an example. The layout and specific resources available will vary for different Trusts.

Browse journals

You can see which journals are available to you, and browse through the contents of past issues.

Select Browse Journals in the blue area in the top-left of the Hub landing page:

This takes you to BrowZine. Browzine is an app and a webpage, allowing readers to browse, monitor and read e-journal articles from different publishers, via a single interface.

From the BrowZine Library landing page, you can either browse to journal(s) of your choice via collections, and then individual titles, or you can search by keyword to see individual journal titles and collections.

The mobile app is downloadable via your App store to either iOS or Android devices.

Further information, including setting up BrowZine Bookshelf (app only) is available through the General BrowZine FAQ.

Although it's easier and more convenient to 'browse' to journals via BrowZine, and search for journal articles and e-books via the Hub, it is also possible to browse and search specialist journal collections, which also form part of the NHS resources subscription.

These include:

  • BMJ Case Reports
  • ClinicalKey
  • Ovid Journals A-Z

See links to the resources available for your Trust from the Hub home page.
