BMJ BestPractice

BMJ Best Practice provides clinical evidence, guidelines and expert opinion on health care, from the BMJ Publishing Group. The information is presented in a step-by-step approach, covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.

Find BMJ Best Practice from the foot of the Hub homepage:

hub home page with bmj best practice link circled

Alternatively, you can find it listed as a resource under 'My Resources' of your OpenAthens account.

When you reach BMJ Best Practice you are invited to create an account - you can, if preferred, choose to 'skip this step'.

BMJ Best Practice works well if you search by simple words or phrases, or you can browse the conditions.

The YouTube video below (2min 8sec) provides a brief demonstration on how to use the resource:

UpToDate

Please note: not all hospital trusts have access to UpToDate, and those that do, have different access methods. Please check access arrangements for your 'home' trust.

At some trusts, you can access UpToDate via your trust's Electronic Patient Record (EPR), on a networked NHS PC. Additionally, you can access via your OpenAthens account, or via the NHS Knowledge & Library Hub.

The first time you access UpToDate, you will be sent to the Registration page. The following video (2min 7sec) from the publisher shows you how to register:

If you already have an UpToDate username and password, from previous access, click on the 'log-in' hypertext (blue text) at the top of the Registration page.
