Best Practices for UCL LibGuides

Top tips for library skills guide owners - Summer 2025

  1. If you are not sure which guides you are responsible for, check the List of LibrarySkills LibGuides, spreadsheet on the Library Skills Team site. If you wish to change the guide(s) for which you are an editor, or believe there are errors on the spreadsheet, please contact Angela Young.
  2. Library skills guides should be reviewed and updated annually as a minimum. See Maintaining and developing online library skills materials on the Library skills training online guide.
  3. See our Summer 2025 Checklist for content to be updated in library skills materials for changes to library resources, services or spaces that have taken place in the academic session 2024-5 which may therefore need updating in library skills and induction materials in time for the start of session 2025-6.
  4. Make sure there are no broken links in your guide, using the Link checker. If you cannot access the Link checker contact Angela Young. Note - the Link checker only checks links that have been added as a 'Link', not any links from linked words in HTML boxes. Take this opportunity to update any links that are within HTML to 'Links' where possible. See Add a web link.
  5. Check any feedback on your guide and review accordingly. See Survey reports. If you do not have a link to a feedback form on your guide, consider adding a feedback form button to your guide, linking to a short feedback form, if you have not done so already. There is template survey available for this. See Creating a feedback button for Library Skills LibGuides.
  6. Once you have reviewed the guide for currency and updated as required, update the date of last currency review and date of last full review / update in the List of LibrarySkills LibGuides spreadsheet.
