Best Practices for UCL LibGuides

1. Add a feedback form to your guide

Give students and staff the opportunity to feedback to you about your guide by creating and adding a LibWizard feedback form. Instructions on how to set it up and attach it to your guide are available in the Best Practice guide. Check out the Film and Media Studies subject guide to see how the form appears (as a yellow tab at the top left of the page).

2. Suggest new books in your collections for the Black Studies guide

Do you have any new titles in your subject collection/s by black scholars or related to black scholarship? Please send them on to Liz Lawes to add to the new books carousel for the Black Studies guide, to help ensure that a comprehensive range of subject areas are represented.

3. Discover new content for your guides

Find and choose new reusable content that will enhance your guide by browsing the reusable content guide. For example:

Thinking of adding new content to your guide that other colleagues might also want to use? Consider creating it in the reusable asset guide and letting us know. Our best practices guide includes instructions on how to add reusable content to your own guide.

4. Check and update links

As always, please make sure that there are no broken links in your guide, using the link checker.

5. Have another look at our top tips from 2023

Our top tips from last summer are still available. Please take a look if you haven't already, or view them again as a refresher. Tips included:

  • Find out how your guides are being used (how many times have your guide/s and page/s been viewed in the past year?)
  • Check our glossary to ensure we're applying common used terms consistently across guides
  • Guidance on how to rename your guide if you need to

Reminder: adding new content boxes to your guide

And last but not least, a reminder that if you add any new content boxes to your guide, you will need to resubmit it for review again. Our reviewers usually respond very quickly, but please allow up to a few days, in case we’re on leave or juggling other commitments. You can avoid delays by adding a note for reviewers when you submit your guide, letting them know what has been added (and where it is in the guide) so they can quickly and easily see the changes they need to review and approve.
