Reading Lists @ UCL

A guide for UCL teaching and academic staff.

Request an online reading list

Time commitment: 5 minutes

Step 1:

Does a list already exist for your module?  Search the reading lists by module code or title to find out.

Complete this webform. A new, empty reading list will be set up if one does not exist and you will receive an invitation to give you editing access: the email will appear to be from 'Talis', the software. The first time you accept an invitation you will be prompted to set up a Profile.

If a list already exists, you will be sent editing access to the existing list.

If you want to give edit access to other colleagues (e.g. the module lead or your librarian), at the top of the reading list click 'Edit' then select 'Invite List Publishers'; insert the UCL email address of your colleague and press 'send invite'. They will be sent an email inviting them to edit this list.

Step 2:

You will be sent brief instructions to get started and we will also offer you a short (20 minute) orientation session.

Step 3:

Add the Bookmark Extension into your web browser. You only need to do this once and we can show you how. You are ready to edit your lists!

Add yourself as 'List Owner'

Adding yourself as the List Owner shows students you are the person in charge of this module.  It also helps library staff contact the right person to assist with purchasing resources or list maintenance.

To set yourself as list owner:

  1. You need to have set up a Profile in ReadingLists@UCL.  If you have accepted an editing invitation you will already have done this.  You can check if you have a profile by logging in (top blue toolbar 'Log In'); once signed in your name will appear in the top toolbar; if you click on this you can view your profile or log out again.
  2. Navigate to the reading list you have been given editing access to.  Check you are logged in (as above).
  3. If this is a list you are taking over, that has been assigned to someone else, then select the 'Edit' button and then 'Assign list owner'. Type your name in the search box or select 'assign to me' if this option pops up. Save the changes.
  4. Your name should appear at the top of the list.
