A guide to searching Explore and managing your UCL library account

Saving records and managing Favourites

The Favourites area allows you to save and organise items that you find during your Explore session. On this page you will find information on:

Accessing Favourites

To access your Favourites, click the saved items link in the login menu at the top of the page.

NOTE: You must sign in to save items to Favourites for future sessions.

Saving items to Favourites

When you select the pin icon for an item in the search results, the system highlights the icon and adds the item to the saved records area, unlabelled.

Removing items from Favourites

To remove an item from Favourites, select the pin icon next to the item in the Favourites area.

Managing labels

Favourites uses labels to group saved items together.  From the Favourites area, you can perform the following operations on saved items:

  • Add, edit or remove a label – click on the text or pencil icon below the item.

  • View all items with a particular label – click on the label at the right hand side.

Managing items

From the Favourites area, you can select a number of items using tick boxes and then perform the following operations on items:

  • Add or remove labels
  • Unpin (remove from Favourites)
  • E-mail: e-mail the selected items
  • Print: print the selected items
  • Export citation: in a range of formats
  • Permalink: create a permanent link to the record
  • QR: use your phone to scan the QR code or copy the link

FAQs

Why have some of my saved items disappeared?

Items may be hidden from your saved records in 'My Favourites' if they have been removed from Explore, or replaced with a different or equivalent record, since you saved them. This is a known issue and a fix can be requested by contacting library@ucl.ac.uk.

Why do I get a blank file when I try to export from my saved items list?

If items in your saved records ('My Favourites') have been removed or replaced since you saved them, this can cause exports such as RIS format to fail. This is a known issue and a fix can be requested by contacting library@ucl.ac.uk.
