This guide introduces the Harvard referencing style and includes examples of citations.

British standards

To be made up of:

  • Name of authorising organisation.
  • Year of publication (in round brackets).
  • Number and title of standard (in italics).
  • Place of publication: publisher.

In-text citation: 

(British Standards Institution, 1998).

Reference list:

British Standards Institution (1998). BS5678-9.8: Structural use of timber: ceiling binders. London: British Standards Institution. 

British Standards viewed online

Follow the same format as for a print standard, and add: 

  • Available at: URL.
  • (Accessed: date).

In-text citation:
