You can embed a button on library skills LibGuides to open a pop-up window for submitting feedback. An example is available on the EndNote guide. See the orange button to the left of the screen. We use a short feedback form for this purpose to encourage more respondents.
Create your survey:
It is not possible to pre-fill the title of the guide in the feedback form when using the pop-up button, so you first need to create a separate survey for your particular LibGuide:
- Log in to LibWizard and click on Surveys from the orange bar at the top of the screen.
- Click on +CREATE NEW.
- From the 'Start with' menu, select 'TEMPLATE Online LibrarySkills@UCL guides: feedback - short'
- Change the name of your tutorial to 'Online LibrarySkills@UCL guides: feedback - Name of guide', e.g. 'Online LibrarySkills@UCL guides: feedback - EndNote'
- Optionally add a friendly URL and description and click Save.
Create a custom URL for the longer feedback form:
In the introductory text of your survey is a link to our standard, longer feedback form. By default this link is to the standard form with no fields completed, but it is better to link to a version with the title of the guide pre-filled so we have consistency for reporting purposes. To create a custom URL with your guide name included:
- Navigate back to the Surveys landing page.
- In the LibrarySkills@UCL folder, click on LibrarySkills@UCL online guides: your feedback.
- Go to Settings in the top right-hand corner of the screen, select Pre-Filled Survey via URL from the sections on the left.
- Next check that Active is selected at the top of the survey, if it is not toggle the switch from inactive to active.
- In the Guide name free text field, enter the name of the guide for which you are collecting feedback.
- Click on the Generate custom URL string button at the bottom
- Copy and paste the custom URL to a safe location where you will be able to retrieve it, e.g. Notepad.
- You can ignore the warning to click save to activate the pre-filled via URL function, just make sure Active is selected. You can view your survey to make sure the name and date of your session appear once you have generated your custom URL.
- Go back to the short survey you created for your guide. NB - please move your short survey into the LibrarySkills@UCL folder to keep LibWizard tidy.
- Click on the Edit field button for the 'We would love to know what you think about this...' question.
- Highlight the words 'Leave your feedback' and click on the Unlink button to remove the existing URL. Then click on the Link button and paste the URL for your pre-filled survey.
- Click on OK and then Save.
Get the code to embed the button in your LibGuide:
- Click on the Share / URL button at the top of the screen.
- Click on the Popup via Button tab.
- Select Tab on the side of the screen.
- Change the button text to Leave feedback.
- Change the button background colour to #f6be00 (this is a colour from the UCL palette).
- Click on the Button Widget Code to copy it to your clipboard.
- From the left menu, click on Widget settings and code.
- Scroll down and click on the Copy widget code button and paste it to a safe location where you will be able to retrieve it, e.g. Notepad.
- Click OK.
To embed the button in your LibGuide:
- Create a box on the page of the LibGuide where you want the button to appear. You can create this anywhere, but for consistency we recommend putting it on under the menu in the left hand column.
- Give the box a name and ensure you check the Floating box option so the box will have no header and will not be visible.
- Click on Save.
- Click on the Add / Reorder button and select Media / Widget.
- Enter a name (this will not be seen by the viewer) and paste the embed code into the box. Click on Save.
- Re-use the box on every page of the LibGuide. You will need to do this one by one. Remember to check the 'Floating box' option.
